Pumps, Filters, Fountains and Trickle TowersAugust, 2003 Pumps and Filters I use several pumps in my ponds. The main pump now is a sequence 3600. I have this pump plumbed from a Vortex tank to my UV Light and then to my main 100 gallon stock tank filter.
Vortex Tank with Sequence Pump The vortex is fed from a hose line that goes through the liner and sits on the bottom of the lower pond. I have it cut so the bottom of the hose line is open. I have wrapped 1/2" PVC coated wire screen around this area to keep fish from entering pipe. Pipe is 3" Black Sewer Plasitc Pipe. Under the Green cover to left of photo is a homemade skimmer. It is also plumbed to the vortex tank. I have the inlet pipe for the pump going through the vortex tank. It has an 90 degree elbow inside the vortex tank and the pipe extends up about 16 inches. This keeps the water entering the pipe clean. I have Fiber Mat cut to the circumference of the Vortex tank. It is placed right above the area that the vortex starts. The inlet pipe is coming through the fiber mat. This keeps the solids from entering the inlet pipe. The bottom of the vortex tank is plumbed to a gate valve so that I can periodically clean the vortex by opening the gate valve and draining away all the gunk that collects in the vortex. The Sequence pump is also controlled by a gate vavlve so that I can shut off the input from the vortex and clean the leaf trap when necessary.
The outlet from the Sequence pump goes to my 40 Watt UV light and then to my upflow 100 gallon stock tank biofilter. Water exits the filter to a small holding pond which also acts as a veggie filter. This pond drains over a small waterfall to my upper pond. Follow these links to: Follow the links in the left margin.stevej46@comcast.net |
